Community Service
Director of Community Service - Brian Norris
Once
described as the "heartbeat of Rotary," Community Service is a
multi-pronged effort to improve the quality of life within our
community. Muscogee Rotary Club members have long been making
substantial and lasting contributions to Columbus, Georgia. To
a large extent, Muscogee Rotary Club's reputation is built on
the many Community Service projects undertaken by our club members.
Community Service Initiatives for the
2005 - 2006 Rotary year concentrate on four areas - human development,
community development, environmental protection, and partners
in service.
Human Development is focusing on projects
that promote the welfare of the community by providing assistance
and support to those in need. Examples of our human development
initiatives are the various children's initiatives including character
education in schools and several mentoring projects.
Community Development is focusing
on projects that help make our community a better place to live.
Examples of our community development efforts are the AIDS Awareness
project, Community Service Recognition program, and the partnership
with Girls Incorporated to empower young women to become more
independent.
Environmental Protection is focusing
on projects to examine and change conditions in our community
that pose a threat to the environment. Examples of environmental
protection initiatives are the environmental education program,
"Help the Hooch", and project "clean and safe water."
Partners in Service is focusing on
service to Rotary families. An example of our partners in service
effort is the family inclusiveness initiative to reach out to
our family members through activities and letter writing.
2005 - 2006 is a busy year for
the Muscogee Rotary Club. With the many Community Service projects
that are scheduled throughout the year, we welcome new ideas,
volunteers, and donations.
